Rocks have appeared often in my still life paintings over many years. After collecting interesting rocks in my travels in Morocco, Greece, Italy and closer to home in California, I began making what I thought of as rock portraits. This then lead to using rocks as compositional elements in more complex works. Rocks continue to interest me for their elemental quality and their infinite visual variety.
